This month the world celebrated “International Nurses Day”, a day to recognise the hard work, dedication and care they bring to the recovery of patients. We at Pine Rivers Hospital say THANK YOU!
One of the ways we contribute to the life experience of Nursing is through Student Education. We regularly have Student Nurses from a range of Universities like the University of the Sunshine Coast, QUT, Griffith, and TAFE QLD, working alongside our amazing professional nurses learning all aspects of care in a Mental Health setting whilst on the job.
This week our students had an extra experience as they participated in one of the activities that makes up part of our “Create Well Being” – Group Day Program. Students immersed themselves in a creative Reflective Activity with paints and colourful mediums to create artwork as part of the process for grounding themselves in the here and now and entering the “Flow State”. “Flow State” - being grounded in the moment through activity eg; puzzles, drawing, sport, exercise or playing with animals as a way to move someone’s thoughts away from their mental health and physical concerns therefore providing respite and a path to clarity.
Students not only had fun, but were surprised at the end of the activity how they too had experienced the relaxed focus that can be achieved by this sort of activity and the clarity of their feelings which they previously hadn’t stopped to think about.
This is just one small aspect of the benefits patients receive from participating in programs and it was a great way for them to experience a moment of the patient journey.
